Plan Your Event
The key to successful fundraising is creating a fun, informative atmosphere with enough variety to keep people’s attention.
TachiCares’ suggested steps to help plan the perfect event by including the entire faculty, student body and local community:
(Though these suggestions are catered toward a school event they can easily be altered to a club or private event.)
- Select one game during your season to allocate for your fundraising event.
- GET THE WHOLE VOLLEYBALL TEAM INVOLVED!!!
- Use this event as an early leadership role for your team captains and challenge them to take part in the planning. Use a simple after practice meeting to coordinate responsibilities.
- Contact the other sports teams and clubs to increase activity. Recognize those sports between matches and at school assemblies.
- Involve the men’s sports teams to promote the event.
- Feature lunchroom & newsletter announcements via public announcement or printed flyers.
- Offer lunchroom ticket sales beginning 2 weeks before the event.
- Get the whole school involved – this doesn’t have to be JUST the Volleyball Team
- School administration can coordinate intercom announcements to students & staff, voice-messages/emails to parents, in newsletters, etc.
- Ask the Journalism department/classes to donate some time to research and design a simple flyer.
- Brief history on the your cause with statistics & call to action.
- Sell promotion & advertising opportunities to local businesses (ie. Newsletter ads, promotional items for sale, product giveaways etc.)
- Reserve space for “Tell your story” – students, faculty, parents affected by your cause.
- Ask the cheerleading squad to make signs/posters for the event. Hang them up around the school the month before the event. Posters could include a list of community members affected by your cause.
- Coordinate with the Audio/Visual department to have full audio assistance for the event with microphone. As your event grows you can look to having it broadcasted across local sports television & radio.
- Contact Drama department to enlist a charismatic MC for the event.
- Ask the Student Government to be in attendance to “officially start the games”. Possibly offer current news & legislation on current funding for research & bills on a regional/state & national level associated with your cause.
- Contact local area businesses (coffee shops, hair salons, grocery stores, car dealerships, fast food restaurants etc.) and offer promotion & advertising opportunities in the flyers as well as place flyers/posters up in their shops.
- Contact local newspaper, TV & radio stations via press release to promote your event.
